Make As Much As A Man!
Women are paid 80 cents for every dollar men are paid and that does NOT include any part-time workers! If it did, it would be even lower. What do you think is going on? Well, I’ll tell you the 4 things that are going on, and 4 things you can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to you.

I’m a graduate student in English literature at Sacramento State, and I’m doing a research paper on women’s opportunities in podcasting. Podcasting for and by women currently is pretty low-tech and doesn’t make money. It’s more for social networking. But corporate media is starting to take notice of podcasting. Advertising dollars will change the face of podcasting for women, both hosts and listeners, in the next few years. Will it change podcasting from social networking to a “real job,” will it damage quality and independence? Or will it position women, especially stay-at-home mothers, for economic benefits? I’d love to hear your comments.
Thanks!

It is my opinion is that advertising dollars will present real opportunities for the great number of women who are working part-time to care for their children. I think of all the talented literature and journalism graduates who’d love to have an outlet for their writing. Could advertising corrupt a podcast host? Most definitely, but the audience will know and will object loudly. And Anne, now that you mention it, I should be considering taking on some advertisers! Volunteerism doesn’t pay the bills.
