Women, You Don’t Have To Feel Excluded, Even If You Hate Golf
One of the reasons women aren’t making it into upper management as readily as men is that they are not included in informal networks. There’s research to support this from Catalyst the New York-based nonprofit organization. And at WomensMedia we receive hundreds of emails a day from working women who tell us of obstacles they face. And, believe me, exclusion from informal networks is a biggie! Don’t worry, you can bypass this obstacle!

Standard Podcast [5:29m]:
I have an addition to make based on several emails I’ve received. If once a week is too often, think about once a month. And no, you don’t have to include everyone when you’re arranging the get-together. This is your event. Go ahead and invite a couple people from another department now and then. Take the opportunity to walk around and chat, as in, “Jim, the November lunch will be next Friday. I hope you can make it. I’ll send a reminder email the day before. This month, I’ve invited Bob from the manufacturing department.”
